Well you might not need the receipt to register the Apple Care ..... but you should have one anyway for several reasons.

What if someone breaks in and steals it, you'll need the info for Insurance. You do have insurance, don't you?

If you bought it through Amazon, getting a copy of your receipt should be no problem. Log on to your Amazon account and see if there isn't an option to " Review " all account activity ( purchases ).

Another vote that Applecare is a really good product. I've used it many times to get issues fixed and it makes repairs so much easier

I don't buy insurance on electronics or home products but I always buy AppleCare! Great insurance. I've had a defective battery on a MB and a defective drive on a MBP - replaced without a problem! Also, some smaller issues that were created by an update but they worked with me by phone for months! Vote yes for AppleCare!

Most extended warranties are a ripoff because they are too expensive, overpromise, and under deliver. None of those is true about Applecare. But it at B&H Photo for a much better price than from Apple btw.

Of course, that position isn't generally supported by the threads on this very forum. ;)

iMacs over the years have consistently had issues, many due to QC and supplier issues, ranging from bad conterfeit capacitors, bad LCD panels, defective video circuits and many of the problems seem to arise a awhile after ownership.

PC's also suffer the syndrome, and Dell, HP, Gateway, Sony, Toshiba . . . all have their respective issues.

I think you'll find that over 90% of the people that come here are not your typical Apple user. There are some people that have repeatedly drank the cool-aid and do not go to forums and don't care about what goes on in their machine and are happy as long as they are carefully following the teachings of their true prophet Mr. Jobs.

Don't believe me? Go hang out at a "genius" bar for a day and you'll see. It's people like those that will buy anything that has an Apple label on it and pay a ton of money every time they go into the genius bar (to do things such as reset their pram, copy mp3s, synch their ipods, etc etc). As long as they are the 95% of the Apple community, Apple will continue to put out low quality products that look nice but fail often.

I've had a good number of Apple products but I steer clear of the ones that have issues (and I get a lot of that info from these boards) and when I do have issues, I rake their care over the coals for it.
