Forgive me if this was already covered as I just immediately went to reply lol. Yes it is worth it and here is why.

1) You have accidental damage protection. This is good for any length of time
2) It increases the resale value of your phone quite a bit if you're selling it with 1 year of AppleCare+ left on it. Its like a safety net for buyers.
3) You can always get a partial refund for it. Apple will refund the remainder of an unused AppleCare plan as long as it has never been used. Since you get hardware for a year anyway, this would only not work if you got a replacement. But at that point you would just be glad you had the plan to begin with lol.

1) good for 2 years
2) by like $20 from personal experience. People just seem to not care. Especially if the phone is "mint"
3) the new prices really make it not worth it at all.

I debated about getting this and haven't the last two phones. However I was able to add it on via AT&T for $99 for some strange reason so I did it as it is going to a family member who could have almost used it on their last phone. Luckily the issue they had was something that was covered by an Apple extended warranty due to being a known issue. Considering they won't likely jump to the next phone in a year and will stay on it for a bit it really came down to a partial piece of mind for me. I'm sure there are better options, but my experience walking in to an Apple store and getting service has been quite good so I stuck with the entity I knew.

Not by much to be honest. You are better off getting a refund for the pro rated amount than selling it as "with AC+"

Yes it is. At least it has for me. Plus it's also easier to sell privately if the new owner has peace of mind that there is still a one year warranty on it.

Not from my experience. I always got enough extra to cover the cost of the warranty. Plus most people would rather buy a phone with a warranty then one without and are likely to pay a decent amount more for it.

Well accidents do happen and you'll regret not having coverage if you do accidentally damage it. I like the idea of the refund though. Probably get more.

Right but it only cost $129 without AppleCare plus to fix the screen and $299 for a total replacement.

A single replacement with AC+ is $229 now!

It is not suppose to be an advantage to not have insurance and that is exactly what the new pricing has done

I have sold my phone on Amazon every year and with the AppleCare on it I have been able to sell them for $50 to $100 more than the average price. People do really seem to care, I know I do when I buy things.

With the iPhone 6, new prices are dropping making the entry level 6 start at $549. So now you can buy a 16GB iPhone 6 for $549 and based on what Amazon says at this moment, used for $403. Based on experience from selling my iPhone year after year I guarantee you could sell it between $460 to $480. Also if you can take your iPhone to an Apple store so they can rule out liquid damage, it helps. :)

Here is the comment you put on the phone that will sell it for that price:
Order your iPhone with piece of mind. This iPhone comes with 1 year of AppleCare+ coverage. Know that your covered by Apple and that your buying a phone guaranteed to work. This iPhone has been verified to be liquid damage free and in working order by Apple Store Genius bar Genius on 9/12/15 and has remained in the box for shipping since.

If all of these things are true, people eat this up. Maybe I have just been lucky since you also said in personal experience, but I truly think it helps.

I understand what you are saying, but with the new prices people will probably not care as much. It's very little benefit b.c the OOW total replacement cost is almost the same price and the screen replacement cost is $100 less without it.

Unless they've changed the pricing and policy on that as well?

Looks to be the same

So I just read this.

AppleCare+ covers two incidents of accidental damage with a $79 service fee.

they reduced the service fee but increased the AC+ cost?

Out-of-warranty* cost:

iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: $269
iPhone 4s: $199
iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, Original iPhone: $149
Plus a $6.95 shipping fee. Fees are in USD and exclude local tax.
*Accidental damage isn’t covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty.

The fee depends on your device.

They may change it for new purchases. Those are the grandfathered Prices

I don't think it's worth it. You'd need to crack your screen twice to see a "return" on your investment. Even if it's full water submersion, your first replacement is barely more
Expensive out of pocket. Keep in mind you can get a refund on Apple care at any time (so you would pay one year up front but can get a refund when you get rid of the phone after a year). Still, I don't consider it value added. If they covered theft and loss, perhaps with a higher deductible, I'd consider it much more viable.

Yes that is for a total replacement. Screen repair is $129 for the 6 or $100 less than with AC+

And you only get a refund if you have no claim.

From what I'm reading they're just charging you $79 to get the phone fixed. If you don't have AC+ it'll cost you $149 to fix the screen or $329 to fix the phone if out of warranty. AC+ costs 129.

This is what it is:

AC+ cost $129 and then $99 per claim. So $229 whether it is a screen repair or total lost

Without AC+ it cost $299 for a total replacement (eg water damage); however, a screen replacement only cost $129 for the 6s and $149 for the 6s+

I don't buy extended warranties on anything. It is a huge profit center for the seller. I just take care of my things and pay when I need something fixed. So far I have had numerous iPhones and have never had to take one back. That has saved me more than the price of a new phone if/when that time arises.

Never heard of that nor have I ever been charged it.
Ah, you're right, it's either $25 or 10% of the pro-rated amount, whichever is smaller. Last time I cancelled AppleCare, it was the regular AppleCare (not plus), and it was a $25 fee.

Check out section 9.1 of the AppleCare+ Terms of Service PDF:
http://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/applecareplus/docs/applecareplusnaen.html

ii) If you cancel more than thirty (30) days after your receipt of this Plan, you will receive a pro rata refund of the original purchase price. The pro rata refund is based on the percentage of unexpired Plan Term from the Plan’s date of purchase, less (a) a cancellation fee of twenty-five ($25) dollars or ten percent (10%) of the pro-rata amount, whichever is less, and (b) the value of any service provided to you under the Plan.
