YES! it's very much worth it!! take it from someone who babied their Hermes watch for 10 months, not a scratch. I bring it into the Apple store for a trade in (NOT EVEN 5 damn minutes), and drop the #@!$$@ing watch on the store floor, cracking the screen, perfectly square mind you!!:mad::mad::mad:

Of course that's $225 that went *poof* !! Would cost me $329 for a replacement!!:(:( otherwise with AppleCare would have been $69!!!

btw, the watch is still functional, the separation is perfectly square, nothing that old Gorilla glue couldn't fix!!

Interesting question, and really not a simple one. Apple Care for the Watch is $79 and there’s a $69 fee associated with a claim, and you have 3 years coverage total. That’s ~$150 invested in a replacement. The watch loses value pretty quickly, so if the value is below $150 in 3 years, you could buy a used replacement cheaper than paying for AC and the service fee. In this specific case, the answer would be ‘no’ by the numbers, though you’d have the hassle of 3rd party sellers.

I bought my neice an Apple watch with AC. If she breaks it she would not be able to afford the replacement so in that case, the answer is yes, it’s worth it.

It also depends on if you have the more expensive stainless steel model.

In the comparison with iPhone Apple care,

I feel I’m more likely to lose my iPhone or have it stolen so need insurance that covers loss theft which AppleCare doesn’t include (in the U.K.)

The chance of my watch being lost or stolen is lower so AppleCare meets all my needs.

Its a personal choice.
I never damaged an iphone and never damaged my apple watch since launch day. So I would have spend much money for apple care without using it.
At this point, I can drop two iphone X and one Apple watch, pay the repair costs and would have money left.

You can calculate: how many times did you destroy your iphone in the past since you first one?

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202704

  • If you cancel your AppleCare plan within 30 days of your purchase date, you’ll get a full refund, minus the value of any service already provided.
  • If you cancel your AppleCare plan more than 30 days after your purchase, you’ll get a refund based on the percentage of unexpired AppleCare coverage, minus the value of any service already provided. You can find the cancellation fee in the AppleCare product Terms and Conditions for your AppleCare Protection Plan or AppleCare+

Thanks!

I have it AppleCare+ for several generation of Apple Watches.... honestly I don't think it's worth it. I've never dropped a watch before, and I don't think I'll do that anytime soon since it's on my wrist.

AppleCare+ for the iPhone on the other hand, definitely worth it.

It's an unanswerable question because you don't know how often they fail, the cost to repair those failures and other variables.

But, if you have a $500 watch, and the cost to buy ($79) + fee to use ($69) is $148 then you are betting that you would use the service 30% of the time in 2-years. I doubt very much that happens for most buyers. In fact, I can guarantee that if it did the price wouldn't be $148.

Edited to correct length of Apple Care.

I bought Apple Care for my S2 and my current S3. I have never had to file a claim, but I am still glad I have it. It gives me the peace of mind that if I shower with it, swim with it, or simply hit it on a doorknob and crack it that I can get it fixed for a smallish fee. In a way I guess you could say I have wasted money on it because I haven't used it, but I have had peace of mind which I think has made it worth it to me.

Honey I broke the watch you bought me, I just feel terrible. I could just die...

Applecare+

Don't worry my sweet, its covered. Lets go shopping and get you a new one.

Me too. I bought the stainless steel model so think AC Plus is wise. Purchased today.

Can’t believe it’s been 2 years but here I am again. Searched “is AC+ worth it for Watch” and found myself here! Have my new graphite coming on Wednesday and was again considering if it’s worth it. I didn’t use the AC+ on my series 4 but still think I’ll get it for my new S6. Peace of Mind as they say....
