I haven't bought it before. My Iphone X needed a new camera and has had a battery replacement, both were £69 from memory. I have bought Apple Care+ for my Ultra though. £99 for 2 years peace of mind. I didn't for my series 3.

True. I could say the same for all the comprehensive automobile insurance I've paid over the years.
the big and essential difference between car insurance and gadget insurance is that, for most people, replacing a stolen car would likely be a financial catastrophe, whereas replacing a gadget would be annoying, not a catastrophe.

Insurance makes financial sense only when the loss would be catastrophic, or nearly so.

Of course, people do a lot of things that don't make financial sense.

I tend to buy AppleCare if the cost is over $500.00 under that price I just go and buy a replacement if I break the device. Since I got a series 8 aluminum with GPS only I just do not bother spending the cost of AppleCare

Well that's the nice thing of all of us having choices. We don't all have to do the same as others but do what we're comfortable with.

And as far as doing things that don't make financial sense, I had a lot of sense in that my wife and I were able to retire early. It took long term planning, investing, hard work and being responsible and disciplined for many years. We are making more now than when we were working, we have a nice home and cars and we don't have any debt. We pay cash for what we need or want such as Apple products and Apple Care. So regardless of opinions, I know that I made a lot of financial sense.

In that case, with those kind of assets, you would presumably already know that it is more important to have umbrella insurance than AppleCare. :)

Yes, that's very true and I do. However, and it's typical for insurance companies now, the last few instances that occurred my agent told me it's better not to submit "nickel and dime" types of claims. He stated that it's more risky now than ever of being cancelled. So what do you do? Insurance is great until you need to use it. Geez.

I am in the same boat as OP. Just got my first AW and wondering if the AppleCare is worth it. You bring up a good point, its up to personal preference and how I treat my watches. Seeing how I am thinking of keeping it (without upgrading) for a pretty long time, I am leaning more towards getting it.

You may or may not know that if you sell or give it away while you still have coverage you can get the remaining balance returned to you. Given it's $79 to purchase it's not much but something to consider.
