Recently i checked the upgrade for my friends line by dialing *639#, i clearly remember the upgrade eligibility to be 04/31/2011, now today when i checked the upgrade eligibility on the same line, it seems it has increased to 08/04/2011. Alas i don't have the previous text to confirm this.
So can anyone of you validate this?

I think Due to Verizon Iphone's launch AT&T had bumped the eligibility dates, since the hype has died down, AT&T is again pushing back the dates.

Clarification: Original update date was 08/2011, got bumped to 04/2011. Now update date reverted back to 08/2011.

They cant change the contract without giving you the option to cancel it

It means, AT&T can't change a subscriber's contract (time, pricing etc.) without giving you the option to cancel the contract. Therefore, unless he/she was notified of the change and given the option to cancel his/her contract, the upgrade date should be corrected/correct.

He did upgrade around 08/2009, so i know 08/2011 is his original upgrade date but i am also pretty sure it was bumped up to 04/2011. And now when i checked it again, it is showing the original 08/2011 upgrade date.

What doesn't make sense? haven't you heard of ATT bumping upgrade eligibility for some of the customers?

How you presented your information of the first post contradicts this statement. Which is it? He should have been eligible 4/11 and was pushed to 8/11, or he should've been 8/11 and was given an earlier eligibility date of 4/11?

I think AT&T might not explicitly mention any change of contract for the fear of losing customers. Plus i think it is just moving the eligibility back to original date from the bumped up date.

Sorry about the confusion, my point is originally he was supposed to get the upgrade on 8/2011. Then he got bumped up to 4/2011. Now when he checked it again the upgrade eligibility is back to 8/2011.

    hope this makes sense

Did he make any changes to his plan? Someone else mentioned their upgrade elgibiity changed a couple months after switching to the unlimited mobile to mobile plan.

Unless he made major changes to his contract, that date shouldn't have changed. Plus the hardware upgrade for any AT&T contract is 18 months, not the full two years. You do also renew your contract when you upgrade though.

My last upgrade was Oct. 19, 2009 (3GS, obviously), and my equipment upgrade (through looking on my account info via AT&T's website or by dialing *639#) is on May 19, 2011.

I've had an issue where recently my upgrade date changed and i haven't made any changes to my account in 6+ months. Used to be a one year upgrade date but now it seems like it is 15 months. I'll attach the screenshot of the text message that shows on March 28th, i was able to upgrade but when i checked yesterday, it says I am not eligible until June.

Yep this happened to me. Upgrade policies were changed from a rolling time frame to one based on how much money you're pouring into their coffers. New family plan account was created in May 2010. Originally I, as the account holder, was eligible for upgrade May 2011. However, when I changed my rate plan to add the unlimited mobile to mobile calling, I had to accept their new terms including the different upgrade times. Now, I'm not eligible until October. Which is B/S.

My upgrade date hasn't changed, but I did get a weird addition to the usual text received after dialing*639#. Here is the entire text.....

"A full discount on a standard device or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on 02/22/2012. We can off you a discounted iPhone upgrade at 2 year commitment pricing +$250 along with a new 2 year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

Where did the extra $250 come from? It's never said that before, it used to say "We can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price.....".

Apparently they felt the need to clarify. They recently raised the "higher price" even higher. I think it was $200 before.

Oh I see.....I thought they were saying you could purchase a "early" upgrade at the old 399/499 price PLUS $250. Then it wouldn't make sense to buy early upgrade as a full price unit would be the same price.

Now the early upgrade is 450/550.

a side note from the convo but it is bull that they raised the no commitment price from 599/699 to 650/750

how are you going to raise the price on aging hardware?

I was due for an upgrade in June, and my other line in December, about a week ago I checked again and now both lines are due in for December so I got pushed back for some reason.

FYI I purchased the i4 at launch. No big deal though since the 5 doesn't really interest me much at the moment. (based on what we know so far)

Weird. My upgrade time has actually been shortened. I got the iPhone 4 on launch day last year, and after that, my upgrade date was listed as 18 months from that date. In the past couple of weeks it has jumped up to August 2011, only 13 months from the date of purchase of my iP4. And I don't meet the minimum monthly price to quality for early upgrade, which has always been said to be $100/month (my bill comes in under $85/month).

The only reason why it would be pushed back would be if your plan changed. If you go from a more expensive plan to a cheaper one, you will have to wait longer to upgrade. If the plan is $100+ before taxes a month you can upgrade yearly, I believe $80 a month is 18 months and anything less is 20 months.

If your plan has not changed, call AT&T could be a system error. Errors have happened in the past regarding this.
