i pretty much read all day every day on the ipad, because i have all of my research materials on it. i quite enjoy reading on it.

i prefer the kindle dx (large screen kindle), because of the e-ink, but some people prefer backlit screens. it reminds me of the glossy/dull screen debates for macbooks.

unfortunately, the kindle dx doesn't manipulate pdfs too well, so that is what i usually use at home with pdfs i know i want have to zoom or mess around with.

I absolutely love it. Indeed the text could be sharper (yey for retina iPad next year:)), but once you dive into the content itself it doesn't bother you. At least thats my experience. The only thing i wish is that the screen could get even dimmer as i find it to be too bright on even the lowest setting when reading in low light or no light conditions.

And if you have an iPhone it syncs the bookmarks to it.

Book reading on the iPad is passable but to be honest I feel the iPad is a terrible book reader. ;)

Its funny because the reason for that is that when it comes down to reading a good book then I don't like distractions, but due to the iPad being such a versatile device then I always find myself answering messages, following notification links, peeping on email or broowsing.

BTW. I feel the same about the Kindle Fire I got. I think I may buy a cheap old e ink kindle an see of the lack of features will make it easier to read without my brain drifting off and thinking about the outside world. :)

Was going to a Nook Tablet in the near future to read books, but since we're getting an ipad2 or Samsung Gaxily Tab 10.1 (Still haven't decided!!), I'm just wondering if any of you find it comfortable or uncomfortable to read books on it.

Thank you

I have an iPad 2 I enjoy a lot. In addition I have the latest Kindle. Purpose built for reading it's e-ink display is far easier on the eyes. Although I'm fortunate to have 20/20 vision, not everyone does. I can't read for more than 15 minutes before getting annoyed at the iPad 2 rendering of text. those who only have an iPad simply don't know any better.

For web browsing, photos & email, nothing beats the iPad. So for me, these two are the perfect combo.

The Kindles price is so low, it's a great bargain. It's smaller & lighter which are attributes that you only appreciate once you're using one.

Consistent with the "no 2 iPad users are alike" hypothesis, this is one reason why I enjoy using the iPad for books. I read a lot of non-fiction and find myself curious about facts, incidents or people in the book and often find myself popping out to do some quick search on the web. I find that it enhances the experience for me.

I have a Nook Touch alongside my iPad. I so so so much think that it's worth having an additional e-ink reader if the extra $100 isn't an issue to you. It's easier and lighter to hold and relax with when you're just reading a book as opposed to interacting with a webpage or similar. I definitely recommend having both.

It's not uncomfortable for me, although I usually dim the brightness down a good amount. I still prefer hardbacks/paperbacks, but I have read a decent amount of books on my iPad 2 without any problems.

I've done all my reading on my iPad 2 since getting it. This includes lengthy novels and magazines/newspapers.

I love it. Oddly, I don't find it straining like I thought I would (and like I do reading on a computer screen).

I've never used a dedicated eReader, so I can't compare, but I love reading on my iPad... :)
