And normal coke doesn't even use real sugar (at least not in the U.S.) so it's not really much more natural.

My Coke can in front of me clearly lists sugar as an ingredient. Whether they are just fooling with us or not, that I don't know. Might vary per country though

IMO Coke is only good as a cleaning fluid. Works wonders in getting out tea stains :)

Certainly wouldn't drink the stuff though.

Yeah- you guys get the good stuff. We get high fructose corn syrup, which sucks and makes your mouth feel gross.

I only drink Diet when I drink soda.

Don't drinks there use high-fructose corn syrup?

My Coke can begs to differ. I think most of the drinks use real sugar as that's dirt cheap here.

Ingredients (transferred from Finnish so some are quite free translations): Water, sugar, carbon dioxide, color (caramel E150d), acidness control substance (E338), organic aromas, aroma (caffeine), vegetable extract

And blood off of concrete... as well as a lot of other things.

This thread just got creepy.

Sorry, I worded what i was saying wrong. I meant that in the U.S. coke and most soft drinks don't use real sugar.

It's true. Most sugar drinks are 'premium' drinks. It's only now that people like pepsi are experimenting with 'throwback' mountain dew and pepsi. Dr. Pepper is doing real sugar too. I've tried both pepsi and mountain dew, and I have to say that they taste better. Especially since they don't leave that sweet syrup-like film in your mouth lee was talking about.

Certainly diet coke has a reputation for being for women, as is generally advertised as such, and because women tend to 'diet'.

I only drink coke in Europe, or in the US in the springtime around Passover when they stores near me stock kosher coke—made with real sugar and not corn syrup. I think that there's a notable difference in the taste, the one made with sugar being crisper and cleaner in its sweetness.

Kosher coke is also an important component of a cocktail of my own invention:

The Hebrew Hammer
- Kosher Coca-Cola (to fill)
- Bacardi 151 Rum (1 shot)

In a highball glass, pour one shot of 151 Rum over ice, add Kosher coke to fill, stir.

:D

Nail polish vs. footballers.
Given some of the fops you see prancing around on the pitch, the two needn't be mutually exclusive. ;)

As you say, the two drinks are marketed completely differently. Personally, I'll drink either – I'm not that fussy.

Probably meant carbs.
No carbs in Diet Coke, or Coke Zero either.

In related news, I drank some Bovril tonight. Meat in a cup. Never mind Diet Coke – this means I win, or something. :)

Coke Zero has 0 carbs, sugars & calories....

Coke Zero is the best for me in the US. Be wary of diet cokes ingredients (any brand and style) outside of the US because in some countries they are still using a chemical that is not healthy/good for you....

So they're marketed differently? I never knew that :D

They're also made differently.

Diet Coke is, more or less, the standard Coke formula, with artificial sweetener substituted for the sugar (or corn syrup).

Coke Zero is made from an altogether different base, one which is meant to taste more like "real" (sugared) Coke, then sweetened with artificial sweetener. The goal is that it's not supposed to taste like a stereotypical "diet" drink. Interesting bit of trivia: when "New Coke" was introduced in the mid-80's, it was a formula similar to this one, but sweetened with sugar.

I'll drink either, but if Coke Zero is available, I prefer it over Diet Coke. I'm not fond of sugar in my sodas (root beer excepted), not because of the taste or the calories but because the sugar makes my mouth feel sticky, which bothers me.
