Me too, a 1812+ soon I will be hitting 10 TB storage.

But I use Bittorrent Sync for the cloud part plus it syncs important folders to a friends synology just incase my house burns down. (or his)

Glad to see you're backing up your NAS and offsite is a bonus, too many folks confuse RAID with backup.

That 1812+ is a beauty, too rich for my blood though (plus I don't have that much media). I use rsync, I wonder how it compares to Bittorrent Sync?

Thanks but that's how I got to the 9GB level ;)

Cool, I use both DropBox and Cloud Station and can always find use for an extra Gig or two.

I have a unique situation: I live in KC and am getting Google Fiber soon. Part of the package is one terabyte of storage space on Google Drive for free. My issue is, what if I fill that entire drive, but then I cancel or leave? I'd have to move a terabyte of storage. So basically, I'm sitting on a ton of free cloud space but won't use it.

OK, it's First World Problems, but this is a thread about storage space issues. I use Box and Dropbox.

The 1812+ I got was a great deal, I calculated the price per slot ratio and it seem to be the best price as I am planning on using it a while.

Bittorrent Sync is very easy to set up, and is pretty fast but does not compare to RSYNC speedwise via LAN.

Over the internet is maxes out my upload, so works very good, they also just brought out an iPhone App, and thanks to my friends have my important stuff I can download it at max speed thanks to the torrent protocol ;-)

I moved recently to Copy, it offers 15go.

Allowing me to store bigger files than Dropbox. I have nothing against Dropbox maybe just a little disappointed by all the PRISM thingy.

Also moved to copy.com and have over 40GB through referrals.
It works smooth with shared folders. It doesn not (yet) have the integration into apps like dropbox though, so I use dropbox for some smaller stuff also.
But big files are on copy.com now for me.

I've got 57GB free with copy, you get like 5GB per referral aswell as 15 to start. The only problem is the lack of integration with other apps, although if you simply want to access files in various places or with various devices, it works a charm

Just to add the Mailbox-to-Dropbox link earning you an extra 1GB is still working...

I have Dropbox (main), Google Drive, Skydrive and Amazon Cloud Drive.

Dropbox works best for me even with the smaller free space - won't use Box as it doesn't have an app for Mac :-(

Just found Box Sync - will have to give that a go, Dropbox will be a hard act to follow though...

Nobody has mentioned data security. I don't put anything private in either DropBox or Evernote because it is not automatically encrypted. Or am I missing something?

Whether it is encrypted or not isn't the issue, it is who has the key to decrypt...AFAIK the only commercial service that has the user as the only key holder is Mega???

I use Dropbox (130GB of free space, get your friends to join!) but have recently established an account with Box.com for work. Many more options for permissions, security, etc. I had too many problems with people deleting and moving shared files. Not the fault of Dropbox, it is a collaboration service, not a hosting service. Box has a free membership option with 5GB.

I'm at 50GB free with Dropbox, and I've done everything I could possibly find to expand on that. How are you saying you get to 130GB of free space? As far as I know there is a max on referrals, which I have reached.

I use Google driver for my documents. Dropbox for the pictures. And both google drive and dropbox then sync up to my Evernote account :)

I use Dropbox on a daily basis and have earned over 22gb of free space over the years from referrals and promotions. I would use one of the HTC or Samsung offers for 50gb of free space but this only lasts 2 years so not bothered. Dropbox is also integrated with almost every app I use which is great.

I have signed up for copy.com and earned over 1.3tb (yes TB) in free space but as copy.com isn't integrated with many (if any) apps I don't really have a use for it. Maybe as a backup option of sorts?

Dropbox is still the best.

Steve should've bought 'em when he had a chance.

Most of the ppl around me using Dropbox, im guessing coz of the integration with other apps, the iOS app and maybe coz its was one of the first... for sure not for the huge free storage space they giving you - 2GB

I know there are "work around" to increase the GB, but way should i do all the work for them if i can get 15GB from the beginning ? thats the reason i never used their service and i prefer using Copy when i need (or others).

Maybe if i had smartphone, the Dropbox app could be useful, but till now i dont have the needs for iToy :D

I like SpiderOak because of their privacy conditions. It's all encrypted, and if you use their client then the key never goes to them.

Another way to go is to set up your own sort of drop box using ownCloud. Then you control everything.

SugarSync is also pretty nice.

And I like Amazon S3 because the prices are very reasonable and it's pay for what you use, not arbitrary increments.

This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to get Dropbox to automatically update when you change a file or a folder that is synced? For example, if I have my documents folder synced and I create and save a new file in it, is there a way to get Dropbox to automatically update to now include the new file?

I have a SugarSync account and it continuously stays updated in that regard, but I have not been able to figure out to do it with Dropbox (if it is in fact a possibility).

Thanks.

As far as I know the answer is no. SugarSync and Dropbox work differently. Dropbox, Google drive, SkyDrive..etc, work as their own drives. You have to physically place the folders or files into the drive (in your case Dropbox folder) that you want synced. Any updates must be made within the Dropbox folder.

SS on the other hand allows you to sync individual folders or files.

My preference is SS but they are going to a paid service so I am no longer using them. The cost is too much for my needs.

I am experimenting with the Box, Google drive and SkyDrive with a lean towards GD.

If SS ever returns to to free or decent rate for a small amount of space I will return to them.

That's what I always thought, but didn't know if I was missing something.

So is SS going to delete the accounts for those of us that had small, free accounts previously? For example, I am/was up to 7 GB of storage through the original free account plus referrals. So will that no longer be an option moving forward, or do we get to keep those accounts?

Yes. Last I heard my account will be deleted on February 8. I've already disconnected SS from all my computers and copied them to Google Drive.

Just curious to hear people's thoughts. I haven't found any recent posts discussing Dropbox vs google drive vs box vs sky-whatever its called etc...

I back up all my photos and videos , now at 21gb, so I subscribe to Dropbox 100gb.

If I pay yearly it will cost $100 for that amount, basically twice as much as most other services, I wonder if its still worth that premium price? (Other than the fact that I'd have to upload everything to a new cloud service if I switch)

Would love to hear other people's thoughts about Dropbox or other services they've used.

Thanks!

Yuuup.

Like several others have mentioned, I will continue to stick with Dropbox for the app integration.

Not to mention, I have several shared folders for home & work. It's easier to stick with what you know then to try to convince your whole family to switch. Especially since I'm the one who convinced them to use dropbox in the first place. :D

Dropbox is NOT a backup solution.

May I suggest the following:
- Crashplan (free) to another machine
- Crashplan+ (paid) to the cloud
