Just to confirm what others have already said wordmunger, I changed the free mac mini links and email address to those which you now see. Normally when we have a spam attack they're just changed to http://spam, but in this case it wasn't the usual suspects, and I was feeling creative :D

Ah. That makes me feel much better. I'd hate to see a joke banned as spam. And I'm not trying to suck up to the mods when I say it's much funnier when I realize that was the genesis of the "joke." Honest I'm not.

Sorry i missed that, though it might have been some new truth in advertising thing. :D

Actually though I thought it was e's way of being playful, his way of avoiding those great (but oversized) images. Today was the first time I had seen Ban Hamster, that is priceless.

BTW, this thread was my nod that edesignuk has been a great addition to the mod staff, that fears of a [joke]"reign of terror"[/joke] were unfounded.

It was. tags don't work in wasteland, so you have to be creative in other ways ;)

It was a free mac mini thread, I just had a little play with it after wastelanding it :D

Actually, if you go in there and search around at other free item threads, you'll notice that things have always been changed from the original link. Some are more entertaining than others, though, depending on the mod and their mood at the time.

Sort of an OT question of sorts. There are many of us that work for various resellers on MR. Occasionally there are great deals to be had. Take the iPod mini as an example. People can post that Amazon has $XYZ for this or that.

Yet there are those of us that might have an equal or better deal, and feel that under full disclosure both as a member of MR and as required by our employer have not linked or posted items for running afoul of the rules on MR.

I guess that it would be easy for someone like myself to post a link and say that a certain product is in stock at a particular place. And I have done so when it has not been my place of employment.

So in the end, can someone like myself post a message that XYZ is available from my employer (if they have given me their blessings of course); as long as I disclose that it is through my employer and I make no plea that it be purchased through me (we are not on commission, so there is no personal gain for me)? Or should I just do a blind post?

Maybe you ought to learn ASCII art, so that you don't have to rely on those tags.

Hmmm....

Not something it ever occurred to me to do. I do have a new appreciation for the work you guys are doing behind the scenes, though. On my blog, I just delete the spam. I guess that means I'm lazy ;)

No... it has to be actual text because images do not display in the wasteland.  So you need to type out what you want it to look like.
