I bought the Apple portable Phone/Watch charger without paying attention. It came with a cable but no wall charger, so I just wandered over to Amazon to pick up one. For a charger, I want a good name brand for from a fire/safety standpoint, but reading the comments of the Apple products there were a huge number of claims that the one the person got was not real. I realize that any feedback on the big A has to be carefully vetted, but it appears that either...
1. Competing companies are trying to sabotage their rivals with malicious comments, or...
2. There are a lot of phony Apple products on Amazon.

I doubt that the above would apply to computers - that would be an entirely different proposition that would probably gain instant rage from Apple, but anybody bought an Apple accessory lately on Amazon? Was it real? Strange? Off colored? (lots of posts on that). Too light?

Not all. But not only do you need to be careful about products but sellers too. As there’s plenty will sell a knock off under a legitimate listing. When possible I usually go with Amazon as the seller. Definitely not anyone with little feedback or under 90%. Then also look at the actual bad reviews of the seller.

I would be very careful with cables/chargers that are original in Amazon. There are too many knock-offs that look identical with the original ones. if the price is too good, compared with the original Apple charger, more likely than not is counterfeit.
That said, there are a few ventors who sell original Apple accessories, that stuck in their shelves for a while. I wouldn't be concerned to buy accessories like trackpads/keyboards etc, because if it is not original, would not behave like one when you try to pair it with your Mac

I would avoid Apple products from Amazon honestly. if you have to, always buy from the Apple portal on Amazon and make sure it’s sold and shipped by Amazon. Apples packaging and shrinkwrap Is pretty specific so compare the box font and wrap, serials etc.

I had to learn this on the hard way. I bought some counterfeit AirPods Pro on eBay. If the price is too good it is most likely a fake.

One thing to keep in mind is that Amazon dumps all products with an identical UPC code into a single bin; counterfeit and legitimate. They no longer have separate bins for each seller. You could place an order with a legit seller but if the picker happens to pick out one of the counterfeit products then that's what you get. The scammers know this and use this to their advantage. They know that people buying from them will get some legit and some fake products as will buyers from other sellers. This makes it difficult to determine who is legit and who isn't.
