Using a shipping service tends to result in epic levels of failure over short distances.

the only time you don't get screwed is when its curior or when it is a middle distance to that grey area between middle and long distance.

Dude...

Immature how? I'm merely pointing out that companies like FedEx constantly bitch about losing profits and rising gas prices and then they haul packages in the opposite direction of where they need to go.
lilj4425 sets an example. He is right, FedEx IS SLOW, that's my point - because they send packages all over Hell's Half Acre instead of the shortest path. I guess I'm immature for using LOGIC which apparently very few of you are using.
So, yes, continue your contest to see who can pretend they know anything about the inner workings of FedEx and I'll continue to use logic and say that they're not doing the most cost- and time-effective methods.

Really? You really think you know better?

Dude, if you don't have anything worthwhile to say, you shouldn't talk. Anything else you think you can do better?

I originally posted not to be criticized but rather more of a comical thing. I was just curious if OTHERS have had this happen to them because this is the first package I've ever had shipped that went through a dozen nodes before even being close to delivery.
Well, after reading your original post, it seems more like you posted it to complain about something completely incorrect and irrelevant to the forum.
If this was meant to be comical, I fail to see any humor in it.

But I forgot that I live in America where NO ONE CAN TAKE A JOKE anymore. Wow. F*** this country. Lighten up people! Not everything is a terroristic threat and it's not Red Alert day anymore, so calm the hell down.
Again, that's gotta be the worst joke I've ever heard. You're the one that seems to be getting mad, and it seems that you're the one that needs to calm down. And by the way, Germans, like myself, can take jokes. But this wasn't a joke.

If you don't have anything funny to say, then don't say it.
ok, How's this:

Maybe FedEx should start a new flight. Hong Kong to your back yard, nonstop. I mean, I'm sure that your back yard has a runway long enough to land a MD-11, right? And if gas prices are $4.06/gallon for you, this should be a huge saver for them since they won't have to fly through the hub and spoke system. And since there will only be one little box on the plane, they'll burn less fuel.

I have enough bitchy people nagging me, I don't need yours too.
If you agree and think that it AT LEAST seems silly to send something backwards across the country, then say so.
Well, you certainly didn't come onto this forum to post anything that wasn't bitchy and nagging. You're lack of understanding shipping systems doesn't make it funny at all.

If you're just gonna give me a line of BS about "oh, you're young and you want the world on a silver platter" then kindly shove it and keep your text to yourself.
Problem is, nobody said anything like that. Some tried to explain how their systems work, but you didn't really show any interest in that.

Quit wasting my neighbors bandwidth, since I am after all tapping into the internet from my neighbors non-secured wireless right now. =]
So you can afford to spend $450 on an iPod but you can't pay for your own internet connection? Way to be a leech.

There's a huge distribution center in Trenton, NJ which is far closer than Memphis, TN. Most of the North-eastern destined packages are sent through there. Still, illogical to go to Memphis, thanks.

All packages shipped through the US via FedEx have to go through Memphis. It's the main distribution center in the country for them. If you were to ship a package from Chicago to Los Angeles through FedEx, it would go through Memphis first. That's just the way it is.

No, some go through Indianapolis. But they typically either go through IND or MEM. It's rare to see a package bypass those hubs.

I came to bitch. I came to ask if it happens to other people often. I came to find out why.
I'm sorry I called it a "joke" when I meant to use the word "humorous" - that is, it's stupid, in a humorous way, to use extra resources to backtrack, and then complain about losing profits.
I'm interested in why it is so, what I am not interested in is the peoples' other commentary about how I obviously think I am God and deserve something special. The only thing I'm interested in is pointing out that it SEEMS pointless to send something the opposite direction of where it's intended to be. I'm not saying FedEx should send it from A to ME, but I am saying that I don't see how it's cost-effective to backtrack. The reason I'm getting pissed is because I must live in my own little world with my own logic which no one else understand. I'm terribly sorry that I have such a ****ed up imagination that not even Cheech and Chong would be able to understand what I mean after a large joint. I steal my neighbors internet because I see no point in feeding the cable company another $50 for something that shouldn't cost that much to begin with and because it's legal for me to do so.

Oh I didn't know that. I knew they were a big distribution center but didn't realize they could go through there and still avoid Memphis. That's nice to know. :) Thanks for the information.

Go take a class on economics and shut up please. What does Cheech and Chong have to with FedEx? Heck, what does any of this have to do with an Ipod Touch? If you are so upset about shipping then you should of bought one at a store like Best Buy or Circuit City. It's not our fault this is happening to you.

I absolutely loathe FedEx's logic. I ordered art supplies that were shipped via FedEx, and RATHER than ensuring that the package actually got to my apartment-- the delivery guy dumped the box on the sidewalk infront of the apartment complex and left.

FedEx claimed I had recieved and signed for the box, and I never saw my art supplies. Stars forbid I order an expensive item like an iPod and have it be delivered by that damn company.

I'd recommend if at all possible, try to buy something like an iPod from an Apple store or an actual store of some sort.

Thank you for this. I did not know that. Mine, however, has gone through BOTH Ind and Mem hubs, in fact, mine has gone through Memphis twice or three times now.
The tracking is confusing me because it arrived at Memphis, departed Memphis, arrived at Memphis, then arrived at Memphis again.

--Addition:

I would have bought it at a store, but I had a $100 gift card coupon for the Apple online store, that was ONLY usable at the online store.

The first part of that doesn't make any sense. It wouldn't arrive and depart Memphis three times even if it's coming from China. I ordered an Ipod Touch that was ship USPS and will arrive here tomorrow. I'll be at home to make it doesn't get left outside in the weather or anything. That would suck if that were to happen.
