Thinking about getting an RX480 and a newer monitor than my antique aluminum 20" cinema display. Wondered if freesync works under osx sierra

I don't think so. My understanding is that Freesync require the driver support which proved by AMD. But in OSX, only Apple driver avail.

Also, Freesync only works in DirectX 9 - 12. And there is no DirectX in OSX. Therefore, it's impossible to have Freesync in OSX at this moment.

FWIW G-Sync works with the latest web drivers from NVIDIA.

Does it work for you? I have 2 Gsync monitors and when I enable it through the driver, my system freezes. Haven't found a solution yet.

Yes, he could buy a Maxwell GPU and a G-Sync monitor and it will work under macOS.

Thanks, I will look for Gsync and get a GTX 980. Possibly a Ti if I can figure out the power issues
