Is Gmail on the Mail app Dead in 10.9.5?

I haven't been able to get gmail on my 09' Macbook pro for over a month now... Using OS 10.9.5. Is Gmail for Mail on this system dead?? I have other accounts that are getting mail, but my gmail emails are no longer coming through... End of the road??

Offhand, I know Gmail is picky with older Mail clients.
I spent ages at one point trying to get Mail on an older version of iOS to connect, and finally had to tick a box in Gmail via a browser saying Allow insecure connections or something like that.
