IMO, the gold on the 5s was perfectly accented by the white glass on the top and bottom of the phone. Because the 6 and 6 Plus use white lines instead of glass, the extra gold looks way to tacky. I too think this time around Space Gray looks the best, with White and Silver tailing not too far behind. The 6 and 6+ look the best in space grey. Gold seems to look tacky now.
Why is that? The Space Gray color doesn't chip or flake off like the Slate color on the iPhone 5. It's a much lighter color compared to the Slate color so that "brightening" that was going on hasn't happened. After a while the space grey will show it's age. The silver, less so.
I too decided to go with gold as a change. Not that it really matters too much since I use cases.Who cares get it if you like it. I had almost every iphone since the 1st gen and all were either black/silver/gray of some kind. I'm going gold this year for a change. I thnk it looks beautiful the Verge hands on video won me over.
Keep in mind though, that Apple produces in quantities they expect to sell, not ⅓, ⅓, ⅓. So if they thought silver would account for 15% of orders but it's running at 25%, supplies will be tight but it still wouldn't be the most popular. If you look at the delivery dates right now, it looks like the silver is the most popular.
