I just got myself an iPad Pro and I’m looking into GoodNotes to take notes with the pencil. But synchronizing with my Mac is a must.

Has anybody subscribed to the mailing list for updates on the Mac version? I just registered but I haven’t received a welcome message or an update yet. One message I found talked about mid February, which is like, now :) Any news would be appreciated!

Thanks, I already found that info. I just sent a support request and I will update this post when I hear more. I also asked about a trial period for the iPad version.

As @chabig has said, "available soon" is the official word.

I currently have GN4 on the Mac and iPad and they works great. But given the direction they're going in, I doubt I'll be upgrading to GN5. I find it disappointing because the current versions are so good. :(

If you don’t upgrade, will you continue using GN4 or do you have another product in mind?

I will be using GN4 for as long as it will run on my macOS and iOS devices. When either one can't run anymore (I need some cross-platform support) I'll examine the digital notebook app landscape and make a decision at that point.

Makes sense. I am a long time Evernote user... but I have started to look for things that better support the Apple Pencil. I'm just so invested in Evernote and almost feel like switching to something else would be painful.

I'm using GoodNotes 4 on the iPP and GoodNotes for Mac. They work well together. I often scribble stuff down in GoodNotes and just need it on the big monitor to transcribe words or pictures I drew.

Im testing out zoho notebook. its much prettier and simpler than evermote, and they were able to import my 35,000 notes, which reduced the pain. Im waiting for the synchronise to finish before totally migrating, but so far looks good.

I cannot find GoodNotes app for my mac. Can you please point me to it?

Well that sucks, it looks like it was pulled. They now are pushing goodnotes 5 subscriptions on the ipad. Will be looking elsewhere when it stops working.
Goodnotes 5 isn’t a subscription app, it’s a flat $7.99 in the US.

I was a GoodNotes 4 and 5 fan. It's still a great app, the lack of sync was a dealbreaker. Although everyone compares GoodNotes vs. Notability, I switched to Noteshelf. The look and feel is more like GoodNotes than Notabilty, but Noteshelf has a killer feature - it syncs automatically with Evernote. Although the sync is read-only, being able to view my notes on my MacBook Pro and my Windows PC (work...) has enabled me to completely switch over to digital note-taking.

I've had no problems at all with GN5.
Glad to hear that you're having a good experience with GN5.

I rely heavily on GN4 (iOS and mac) and haven't upgraded until I was confident that it was stable and works. I've been watching the bugs being reported on GN5 and things are still too squirrely for me to upgrade.

I'm a math teacher. I connect my 12.9 inch iPad with GoodNotes 4 to a projector, and use it as virtual whiteboard. I use it in "presentation mode," in which the projected image does not show the user interface. I can blow up my screen if I need to write in smaller notes, while the students see only the original zoom level. I don't know of any other application that does this.

Originally GoodNotes 5 didn't support presentation mode so I've been using GoodNotes 4. It looks like they recently added presentation mode to GoodNotes 5 (there's a notice on the website from 15 days ago), so I'll try it out.
