Google doesn't make better products than Apple. In fact, they don't make any products at all, and the customer support on anything they do is nonexistent. Android doesn't really count as a product, in this sense, but if it did it would just illustrate the point even more.

Android is fragmented, insecure, and has no guarantee of any updates because that's left to the handset maker.

Why? I'm not trying to be obtuse on purpose but I have my needs and as a user and consumer I select product that fit my needs, one aspect that is important to me is protecting my privacy - as best I can. I realize in 2014, Privacy is more of an illusion, but still that doesn't mean I'll gladly allow companies to track my habits and continually phone home to detail what I've been doing.

I agree. Every company that deals in any way with the internet tracks what you do; Including that stupid ShareThis or AddMe social buttons or whatever they were that now track your screen fingerprint rather than leave cookies.

It's the way those companys handle the data and the extent to which they track it that makes the difference. Google admits they snoop through your email and Voice messages (and people have a fit for a while and then just accept it), and this doesn't improve their product at all - it simply makes their ad placement more effective.

I'm not saying Apple's perfect or not in it for money, because if there was no money in it no one would be in it. But at least Apple doesn't get blown open for breathing down your neck and then go "yeah, so what. oh well." Also, given the extent to which they track people you'd think they'd take better care with security. Google has been hacked, Apple hasn't. Does Apple track you? To an extent, of course they do. But it's tied directly to customer experience because Apple doesn't place ads. Apple makes software that runs on Apple hardware, and that's the focus of the data they collect. When it comes down to data safety, of the two companies, they're the ones with a track record of security, not Google.
