I think they're pretty bad. Not because of their data practices or whatever. It's the contempt they have for their own users. YouTube is still worse in Firefox than in a chromium-based browser.
I don't think you said what you meant. Firefox is not owned by Google, therefore it would be only correct their own platform works best on their own platform YouTube and Chromium is both Google. Firefox is a separate entity.

Maybe it's just me that would want all my site's users to have a good time then. What a world 🤦‍♂️

I've been using iPhones for a long time (since the 4s). I am also the go-to guy for tech for some people I know. I've never seen an app being unable to be installed on an iPhone. I have seen this on Android phones.
Well, I am the opposite, I have never seen an app on android I could not remove. I have seen it on iPhone in the past 7-8 months. I work in the industry and deal with this every day.

You had an app on an iPhone that the iPhone OS refused to let you uninstall?

I am not an expert, so I'm not asking to be sarcastic.

I understand you can't uninstall some system OS apps - but talking about what was stated - 3rd party apps being installed from a website on an iPhone and being unable to uninstall those apps.

as a search engine company, as the android developer : your choice, I don't agree with their business practices but are they 'bad' or just opportunistic - as for any UI it is a matter of taste, personally I prefer the simple over the complex

Yes, some weird 3rd party apps. 4 of them. NOT SYSTEM APPS. ( I work in the industry, I know what apps cannot be removed), I should have taken a picture of said apps, however it was very busy in the store when I was trying to help this person. They were older and not up on tech and he sent his wife in with the phone to try to get it fixed up.

I tried to remove said apps without success. They were using the Apple Mail app as well and it somehow locked the mail app from deleting emails as well.

The only thing I could suggest at this point was to call apple directly and probably do a factory reset.

Google does some great stuff, but their motto is "You ARE the product"
Everything....EVERYTHING you do with Google is stored and used for commercial practices and sold to anyone who will pay, and will be forever owned by Google and used as they please.

No one is arguing they don't. Our arguement is apple does the same.
My argument is that EVERY publicly traded tech company does the same thing. As I have stated many times. They ALL are about one thing. MONEY. they don't care about you, your privacy, your well being, health or anything about you. They care about how they can squeeze every cent from your wallet without you figuring out that's what they are doing.

Apple are the masters at this because they have a crack marketing team that knows how to cloak all of this in baby farts and rainbows. The others don't have the same marketing team so they are "evil" or the "bad guys". Once you figure this out and accept it, life becomes much easier and choosing products based on YOUR budget and needs as opposed to what Company "X" tells you you need.

For example, I bought a samsung watch ultra for 849 dollars cdn, had it one day, found out 1/2 the features I wanted on the watch don't work with my pixel phone. I returned it and I am going to be buying a gard pro ultra. All the same features I want in a durable titanium case for 159.99 cdn. Why? because they are not samsung or apple who can charge those wacky prices and get away with because of fanism. The sensors on the gard are just as accurate as the big brands. My wife is getting the guard pro health for her watch. Same thing goes.

As for phones, our next phones are going to be motorla stylus-esssss.🙂 Why? because they have everything we want in a phone, plus more for 1/2 the price of our current pixels. Plus, we get better battery life, an active stylus, a phone that can take a drop since it's plastic with vegan leather on the sides and back, and has a camera that is very comparable to what's available from the big brands. Are they cool? Nope. Are they hip? nope. Are they awesome? hell yeah.

I would be gone full linux if I could run affinity suite natively on it. Alas, I can't so I am stuck with windows.

I do enjoy my iPad, it's an amazing piece of tech, even as the "junky" 10th generation (all tech youtubeers told me it is, and say not to buy that one)...it's serving me great. iPadOS finally got a decent file management and windowing system baked in so that is a bonus. I will use it till it dies. Then, It will probably be replaced with a cheap android tablet that gives me stylus support and decent keyboard with trackpad accessory. Why? because I use my tablet is mostly a note taking device and e reader content machine. The iPad is completely overpowered for my use case. I know my son who has autism will ALWAYS have an iPad because that's what he is used to.

As I have said many times. Stop listening to APple marketing and Techfluencers (most are paid by apple, samsung etc to tell you what you want to hear instead of the truth). Oh and benchmarking does not mean a roll of beans to acutal use of devices. They are synthetic workflows that have nothing to do with real world work. It's all designed to make you think you need this or that.

For a bit of fun.....

The gards have sketchy reviews, especially for fitness data. I would recommend a lower end garmin tbh, or the pixel watch, I know they may cost more, but they actually track your stats. ignore parent comment, and read the rest

Despite being the least-worst of all the internet superpowers they’re still pretty bad. I accept that some level of data exchange is the devils bargain to keep the modern internet ‘free’ but I also respect the old internet. AI summaries and the need for SEO are killing the very same websites they rely on for AI answers. At some point they’re going to do the same for YouTube, use AI generated videos trained on creator uploads to answer people’s queries. All this will kill the web dead making their AI largely useless. LLMs don’t suggest factually correct answers but the ones with the highest probability of being right. This is why 50% of the answers are utter tosh. Google, like every other AI company want to convince the world they can never function without their product again and hook them for life.

I like Pixel Phones and don’t mind Android at all, but it lacks the detailed polish iOS has always had as well as the rich Apple app ecosystem. I know people complain about Liquid Glass but they’d be even more livid if they went to change their wallpaper and discovered a SpongeBob theme had found its way into the base OS just because Viacom waved their wallet.

None of this is as bad as the crap OpenAI pulls, the nonsense Microsoft shove into W11 and nowhere near the sewer Meta has become.

beg to differ. Buy apple because you like their products, OS, etc. Do NOT buy apple because they are any better than the others with your data, ai or any other privacy focused reason. that's what I am saying.

Avoid the troll answers here and do a little research yourself.

e.g. here's a deep dive into how bad Google is in terms of privacy and tracking, by Proton who are a big well-respected european service provider that has no affiliation with google or apple:

Troll as in Me? Again, At least you know what google does, Apple hides it away behind privacy and secuirty claims without ever seeing anything. They are ALL THE SAME. I am not saying google is good, I am saying they are all bad.
