Is headphone jack in 2010 MBP also optical?

The title says it all. We have a 2010 15" MBP and can't find the specs on it and were wondering if the headphone jack also supports optical?

Why should it not? Plug in an optical cable and play with the Sound Preferences in System Preferences.

I knew the newer MBP's have optical in their headphone jack I just wasn't sure if our 2010 was too old and maybe didn't have that feature.

They probably do have optical, because when I ran Ubuntu on mine, I saw a red LED illuminating in the headphone jack.

I'm pretty sure every Apple computer that has a headphone jack has optical audio as well. They have for quite some time now. The only line I'm unsure about is the Macbook Air.

I have a late 2008 and it does have it, so no worries.

Even the 2006 white MacBook has both optical in- and outputs in their headphone and mic-in jacks!
It's precisely the new MacBooks that have lost these jacks and capabilities.
