    I just acquired a new iMac after years of using Windows desktop computers. Pleased with the new machine, but I really miss a mail notification program called Pop Peeper that only runs on Windows (website: http://www.esumsoft.com/products/pop-peeper/ ). Herald for Mac looks like it could be an effective replacement. Does it work well in Yosemite? Do I really have to back up my whole computer before installing it? -- the following paragraph spooked me a little on a website that was reviewing it:

    Note: Mail plugins are not officially supported by Apple. While Herald has been thoroughly tested, it's possible it may cause unintended conflicts with Mail or with other unofficial Mail plugins, especially after OS updates. It's recommended that you backup your computer before installing Herald or any other Mail plugin, and always before installing any updates to Mail or OS X.

    Any info would be much appreciated!!

    Are you aware that Yosemite has it's own built in mail notifications?
    Look under System Preferences->Notifications->Mail
    I've used Herald in previous versions of OS X before notifications became available to the system, and never had any problems with it.

    Yes, I'm using a banner, but with Pop Peeper you can do much more right on the notification -- especially useful is being able to click on "Delete". Also "Mark as read" allows you to store the mail as no-longer new without having to open it.
    I'm thinking that Herald for Mac can also do these things.

    Apple's default notification allows you to delete right from the notification, but not file messages.

    I must be missing something. The only choices seem to be "Close" or "Reply".

    It may be a 10.11 only feature then. I get "Trash" or "Reply" in 10.11.1.

    Look like it's a moot issue anyway -- just downloaded Herald and it said it wouldn't work with my OS. Requires 10.11.
