I'm on the latest rev. of Sierra. It's definitely had it's share of software hiccups: with safari scrolling, clementine crashing endlessly, safari pages simply going blank when scrolling, office 11 crashes, super slow storage info updates. Overall, however, it seems reasonably fast, smooth and polished.

I would like access to iMovie however, and can't download it without simultaneously updating to high Sierra.

Are the high Sierra bugs worked out? Namely, very slow start up times, incompatibility with the APFS file system, and other issues? From what I've read, the .6 update isn't going smoothly for people either.

This seems like one of the buggiest os's, certainly in recent years.

Or, can I download a recent version of iMovie compatible with Sierra instead?

Backup, update and see if it works for you. ALL the HS .x updates have worked fine for me along the way.

The only way the internet will be empty of people having issues with the .6 update is if literally no one has any issues and that, given the installed base, isn't going to happen - there are too many variables.

I just upgraded from El Capitan to HS maybe 2 weeks ago or so.. I've encountered no problems (other than "this software is not optimized messages) and some (slightly) better performance.

Not a ringing endorsement, but not a "DO NOT FOLLOW" message, either :)

I don't see much to gain with a "side grade" to HS. Apparently there are some theoretical speed gains with APFS, but few are seeing a significant speed boost. I don't know of any other new features that I would benefit from.

Anyway, the reason I wanted to update to HS was because the iMovie download was apparently only available with HS. I downloaded iMovie 9 however for .12 so I'm fine.

Looking forward to Mojave: dark mode, stacks, faster, more stable than HS.

.12 seems to be fast and lean; most of the problems I'm having are primarily with apps that are outdated such as clementine or quodlibet and the like.
