iCloud Mail has been experiencing issues for some users since roughly 10:30 AM Pacific per Apple's System Status page. If you are unable to access your inbox right now, leave a comment here to let us know you are affected.

Update (1 PM PT): Apple's System Status page now reflects that iCloud Mail service has been restored for all users.

Must be regional. I just did a test and I can send and receive iCloud Mail in California.

Doesn't appear to be working for me in the UK. Mail app stuck on checking iCloud email #

Edit: Appears to be back now!
