I think Apple's look was ruined with the G3 iMac and onward.

Interesting view. In my opinion, Apple didn't have a look UNTIL the G3 iMac and onward. Apparently the mid 80's-90's looks weren't working out too well for them. But honestly, what was so uniquely Apple about beige boxes? Frankly they looked like crap.

The lines were cleaner and more refined than the standard PC. The look was just subtle. Just look at an IBM or Tandy from the same vintage.

You can see that they took effort to make the screens, printers, computer, and keyboards match.

Heck with the old Apples Steve Jobs had countless revisions made until they looked perfect.

I just ordered some mint condition Apple Pro speakers for $12 including shipping! I'm on a roll with these deals. Will post a photo when I get them. Love this Mac.

I suppose it depends on what we mean by "timeless".

If we're going by "you can't tell what year/decade it was designed in", then yeah, with a few exceptions, almost all technology eventually looks dated.

Maybe "classic" is a more accurate term?

yeah, hitech stuff generally loses the hi pretty quick when compared to other stuff..

'classic' sounds good.. i'd certainly consider the g4 imac as classic design..

I got a 15" recently along with the original "oculus" speakers and iLife '05 for about $100 (I decided to shell out another $20 for a non-yellowed keyboard). Runs 10.4.9 wonderfully. I see pros and cons with the machine. The CD tray feels like a step back, and I hate the port placement, but that's a trend which continues with my 2011 iMac. On the other hand, the shaft on it is just amazingly tough and it's very impressive how it responds perfectly to movement - never shifting or tilting downwards unwantedly, never going into too much of a spin when it's turned. And Airport still works flawless, connecting to any or every Wi-Fi around.

I always felt the design of these was amazing, and still is impressive to this day. There have been times when I scoured eBay to see what the prices were, but couldn't justify picking one up because I don't think I'd ever use it over my existing systems. Still, love the design.

Only if you have airport extreme does it work flawlessly. The original airport cards are not compatible with newer routers. Recently upgraded my router and found myself unable to connect to wifi on my old iMac G3 and iBook G3. The airport extreme card on the iMac G4 works great though.

The speakers are here and my set is complete! I gotta say, these tiny speakers pack a huge punch!

Edit: Why is the photo sideways?
