With some mods the 5G dock works great with the iPad and allows Audio, Composite and S Video output and IR control with the Apple IR controller and charges the pad as well. Here was my whack at making it work:

I havent got any dock yet, so thats why i am asking.
And i think that i dont want to rebuild ipod dock - so much to do

No, at least for the iPhone 3G. The iPhone is too fat.

Since I know the 3G and 3GS have the same dimensions, so how finally is it?

Yeah, 3G fits. It's snug, but it docks and charges okay.

But if I will use that dock with my iPhone, will my 3G after sometime has scratches on the back (I mean really visible, not those that're visible in light only)?

My 3GS (with full bodyguard front and back) is too fat. It feels like I'm forcing it down and will damage either the charger part of the dock or the charging connector in the iPhone.
Maybe the newer iPhone will be okay.
