yes, its build quality is just as bad as its firmware
no, it's just like the older version
no, it is indeed worse than the first iPhone but still not the worst product regarding hardware quality control
other, please explain

I didn't remember that many people complain about the build quality a year ago or anybody say "this next iPhone better not be bad as the first one"
I also understand Apple tried to make it a better product making the battery and the glass substitution easier, but not giving the right attention to the QC the results for me are a first real bad light leaking iPhone, and a second one with 8 white pixels(and I realize this doesn't actually have to do with Apple),light leak again and the worst one is the upper left corner of the screen higher than the bezel,I can actually push the screen back in
PS what's with the "other",anybody care to explain?

Remember the "Hindenbook"(PowerBook 5300)? It was an apple product which sometimes burst into flames ala ipod nano. So, its not as if the quality has gone *down* in my opinion.

I think the build quality on the iphone is average for apple products. Keep in mind these things are being cranked out by the millions in a very short time.

My 3G is every bit as nice as the original. The white back is different than the silver but the improved signal strength is worth the difference. So far, the white back looks good as new.

Any issues seem to be related more to the 2.0 software...

That doesn't mean squat! Just as an example, the Nokia 6310i, which is still on one of the most popular phones of all time has been produced in much larger quantities and was virtually indestructible.

There is still no excuse for bad quality (referring to the cracking backpanel) products that cost this much.

Other: Who gives a turd?

The problem with asking here is that many people found this forum through Googling for various problems and issues they're having with their phone. It isn't an accurate representation of the issues with iPhones. Similarly, visit any car enthusiasts' forum and you'd think that car is a colossal failure of quality control, too.

I know apple products suffer from bad QC, however my 3G 8GB feels solid and well built.(I guess I got lucky this time!:))

even if it is their worst product

its better than anything their competitors are spitting out

I was hoping the QC hadn't gotten worse since 2007..
would someone be so kind and remind me the quality issues with the 2g?

I remember when the 2G first came out, people were complaining about the chrome trim not fitting correctly and having a rough edge. Many people complained about low speaker volume. In fact, there were just as many people complaining as there are now.
