So here i am,belong to a 3rd world country,as i cannot afford 5c/5s/5 so buying a used auto gevey 4s running iOS version 6.1.3 quite cheap...I want to know is the 4s worth buying even in 2014? just tell me your most honest and rational opinion please? Should i opt for a moto G/Lumia etc or will the 4s will be fine?is it still in production? how much longer it is gonna supported?

It depends a lot on you. Do you use your phone heavily? The 4s is still in production and you can buy them new from Apple. Replacements and repairs should also be covered for a long time to come yet due to the volume of 4s models being used by owners. If it's on 6.1.3 you may want to keep it on that iOS at least until iOS7 becomes less buggy. Also a lot depends on cost etc...

In Pakistan, I'd think a 5x would be a waste even if you can afford it, am going to venture you don't have high speed cellular just yet.

4s still fine if you don't need the latest and greatest (debatable), and to me, it's an Apple's classic.

If you want the latest and greatest and a bigger screen at a more resonable$, get one of those Androids.

thank you very very very much for your reply, yes we only have 2g gsm (3g soon to come),no i am not for the latest, and in my case, where the low budget is a hindrance, the latest is not the greatest, sure i am a bit confused about, getting a low end lumia like 520 and just fulfilling my needs (fb,browsing) but iphone's user experience and browsing and the "smart" side of the phone appeals me,

and the only greatest android in my budget i would say is the moto g which is available for $270 in pakistan but still no android comes close to it (not even xperia sp/xperia c does comes close but its chipset is mediocore, extremely low on performance as compared to moto g)

so here i list my options
1. Apple iphone 4s
2. Motorola Moto G
3. a cheap lUMIA..

any further help would be greatly appreciated

thank you aswell,by the way I text and use facebook a lot and yes a unique bit i am(sort of want to become) a "utility apps/productivity apps user"....using dictionaries, ebooks, other misc. apps and stuff

4s is more then enough. I do have the funds to buy a 5s if i want but i'm choosing to stay with 4s because it does all i need. Especially now that i updated to ios7, its like a brand new phone.

If you only have 2gsm then even a 3gs should be fine for you.

Depends on if you are HUGE on having the latest and coolest tech(just gonna guess that since your considering the 4s that would be a no since it is 3yrs old)...
Anyways, it is still a quality phone and can do everything that the new iPhones can do. The 4s probably will not support ios8 because doesn't have strong enough hardware to manage such an advanced so. Of course it has a smaller screen and has a 30 pin charging port instead of a new lightning port. So you may like the 4s if you have any older docks or stereos (or even your car) that uses the old iPod charging cord. It isn't a bad phone so u won't have problems. You will be satisfied with any iPhone you purchase. If you have questions specifically about any feature or other component of the iPhone 4s(or any other iPhone iPod or iPad) feel free to reply back to my post and I will definitely reply back with the best answer I could possibly provide.

Have a great day and happy new year!!!!!

THANK YOU,so ios 7 hasn't proved laggy? :)

For your need, I think, Moto G would be a great choice. I am an iPhone 5 user which gives me what I need but I can't recommend iPhone 4S for you because you need to balance the the environment with what a phone is capable of not just what you can afford. Lumia would be a bankable if you can have it for $100 to $150 in your country but if that is unattainable just stick with Moto G and you won't regret it.

but both are capable (save the camera of moto g and the build quality) and extremely capable, the difference here is user experience and the biggest taxing factor for 4s is it is 3 years old, while moto g is all new (not saying 4s is not capable or i need the latest and greatest,it is something about support, and a bit of feeling odd to have a 3 year old smartphone)

Go with the 4S. I just upgraded from a 4S to 5S and don't see a big difference. For the casual user, the biggest thing you'd notice was a bigger screen with the 5S and the 5S gets LTE versus 3/4G with the 4S.

I updated my 4S to iOS 7.0 with no issues. Ran smoothly.

My only real gripe with my 4S is slow CDMA 3G data speeds. Frankly if 2G was the best offered then I'd find the 4S more then adequate.

I'm on iOS 7 and with a couple settings tweaked I find it to be a good experience.

I'm a pretty heavy Facebook, Instagram and other social media user. I'm on it right now using tapatalk which is a forum app...

Surprisingly not. It is very smooth with the occasional app crash but it is very rare. I don't think there will be a problem with the 4s.

I can't speak for the future that it won't be laugh but maybe depending on your wallet, the 5c might be a better option(only $50 more than a 16GB 4s) unless u are only interested for the 8gb free or $0.01 4s...

...you may want to consider an iPhone5, there's a bunch of deals on last years model now that people are ditching their perfectly good iPhone5's for 5's!

dudes i live in pakistan where the price of 5c is sky high mate :)

No.
Buy 5(s) or buy something else, dont buy iphone just for the sake of having an iphone.

Moto G is a superb device for the money you pay for it, Lumias are also great devices for their price. There are so many better options than 4s

I know that they are capable, I was referring to you environment where you are going to use that phone. If your carrier can't avail you with the features of phone you are going to buy, why wasting money for buying high end phone then. If you can get Moto G for less or Lumia for lesser why looking for iPhone because it's an iPhone while you should look for possible features you carrier allow and what cash your pocket can sustain.

Depends on how long you want to use it for. I think it would run well enough for about another year and a half. It will probably get ios7 although I'm not sure how well it would run it. The A5 processor isn't bad.

hmmm :) thank you all :)

Btw is there any "good" swype/swiftkey like app for iphone (without jailbreak)?

iPhone 4S still is a great phone. Just wait for iOS 7 to mature to 7.1.

Mine doesn't crash but it's definitely slower... Mostly because the slow animations (even when disabled) create a gap where touch response doesn't respond, even when everything looks loaded and settled.

Still, great camera and screen... If you get a good deal on one I'd recommend it!

The 4S is still a great phone. In my opinion it feels higher quality than the 5's. Obviously it's nicer to have the latest but feel good going with the 4S. Save money, don't break the bank :)

seeing how you only have 2G service and maybe 3G in the future; yeah stick with the 4S. None of the 5/5S/5C benefits will be apparent without HSPA+ or 4G LTE. Might as well save your money and use what works.

I've been using a 4s for over two years now and it has been running really well. It is a great phone and I have no problems with it on iOS 7. If you want an iPhone and are limited with funds, I think the 4s would still serve you well. Just don't expect it to get as many updates as the newer iPhones.
