I'm considering to buy an Apple Watch now. Just got a quick question about if it is a good timing to buy it now or should wait for a newer release coming up later.

Thanks in advance!

There's always another watch and another sale coming. Buy it now if you want it, or set yourself a threshold that when the watch drops below $x you'll buy it and wait for that to happen.

It's always a good time to buy an Apple Watch. 😎👉👉

Serious answer: unless you're buying an Ultra, it's a good time to buy one. If you specifically want an Apple Watch Ultra, I'd say wait until the second-generation version so you can see some real improvements.

The current Apple Watch (8) was released in September 2022 and Apple seems to be on a pretty regular release schedule with these so get one now if you want one or wait until September to get the next version.

If we're being frank about it, the Apple Watch updates have been extremely iterative. There hasn't been a massive leap in the watch capabilities from generation to generation for awhile. It's not a device to have a lot of FOMO on when the next generation comes out.

From the rumours so far the 9 will be iterative again.
Makes sense as the major redesign should be the 10, they might even amalgamate the two lines, ultra and series for a watch that does it all!

As others have said, I can't see the S9 being that much of a difference. Many are still running S3 as the difference between those and the S8 are not that different and/or the feature difference is not important enough. I am S5, just bought 2 new S8 only because my wife lost hers. We update devices together otherwise we would have just stuck with the S5 until at least the 10 when it's likely to be more symbolic.

I am currently using an AW 6 Alu and it is nice, but 80% battery health makes me consider a new one, when using it actively with calls and podcasts it tends to drain quicker than I am comfortable with.

I have tried the Ultra and I truly felt it was far better at getting text right when dictating messages, it held a more stable cellular connection and the battery life was really good. The larger screen also made it easier to hit UI-buttons with my man-sized fingertips. :)

In Europe the AW Ultra is really expensive (Like 1000 dollars at current exchange rates) but I can get a demo for 820. Is it so that the Ultra is indeed better at the mentioned stuff?

What improvements are you waiting for? The Ultra is awesome.

the Apple Watch updates have been extremely iterative.

Updates are generally very minor. The Ultra was the big news at the last release.

should wait for a newer release coming up later.

What would you be using it for? Standard functionality hasn't changed for some time. Killer new features, such as blood sugar analysis, are likely years away. You can buy now and trade it in if there is some feature on the new watches that you want, although trade-in values tend to be low.
