I assume that there might be a threat if this is done. I've been at least putting the monitor to sleep before doing it... but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't even do that.

1) Is it safer/better to only connect/remove the mini-display port while the laptop is off?

2) Is it possible to make secondary monitor (mini-displayport) the "main desktop" while mirroring is off?

Thanks

"DisplayPort delivers on the digital era’s promise of simplicity: simple connectors, plug-and-play set up with external devices, and streamlined form factor for new all digital desktop monitors. DisplayPort’s USB-sized connector secures without thumb screws and its thin cable can reach projectors up to 15 meters away."
