Best buy has the 2018 2.3GHz 13 inch MacBook Pro for $1299 with student discount and the 2019 1.4GHz MacBook Pro is $1399 with student discount. Which one is better?

Get the 2019 if you can it has a quad core processor, touch bar and the latest keyboard which is improved. The 2.3 is actually a 2017 model without the touchbar and it only has a dual core processor. The 2019 model will be worth a bit more money when you end up selling it to upgrade.

I think he’s referring to this one:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-...-256gb-ssd-space-gray/5998400.p?skuId=5998400

Which is the 2018 Touch Bar model. I would probably go with the 2018 over the 2019 entry level model.

If you are comparing the 2018 quad core model to the 2019, then these models are VERY similar. Performance will basically be the same across the board.

2018 benefits: 4tb ports (vs 2 ports in the 2019), better speakers, arguably better cooling for sustained load (but this is debatable), faster SSD (but will most likely not often be able to tell the difference)
2019 benefits: better battery life, updated keyboard*

*If you buy the 2018 model and have a keyboard issue, Apple will replace it for free with the same keyboard as the 2019 model

The 2018 also has 50% faster wifi.

2.3 or 2.4 all the way. Purchased the 1.4 a couple days ago with 128gb. Went back yesterday to trade it for the 256. They ended up giving me the 2.4 for the same price. 1.4 ran super hot and the battery would drain pretty quick.

I’ve tried the 1.4 and the i7 2.8.

The 2.8 feels faster overall. Also stays significantly more cooler and better battery life for me.

I have them both and honestly the 1.4 feels faster almost to me.... and I like the keyboard, I wouldn't want a 2018 keyboard. and something new will hold value better..... I can't believe how fast the 1.4 is, made me send my Air back even.... no need...

“Better” is completely subjective.... one computer will be better for one person, and the other will be better for another person.

The first step which will allow someone in this forum to assist you in choosing a computer is for you to tell us what you want to use it for.

How do you plan to use this computer? What software will you run?

point is, and most reviews say the same thing, its hard to justify the cost difference.. I feel the 2.4 will be soon d/c....

I did the same thing. The 2.3 or 2.4 quad core model is a good deal if you need extra ports and storage for the price of the base model.

also all reviews state there is only a 5% difference in performance between the two.... so there's that...

I feel like the base clock speed of 1.4 is low, but I"m no computer expert.
speed difference is only 5%, 2019 has better keyboard... and I believe runs cooler... what's confusing is does Best Buy or anyone have the 2019 2.4 on sale??

I bought both models new. Price difference was around $350 - with that, it's a no-brainer - the 2019 is a fantastic value. When the prices are closer then it's a tough call. I will say the difference in battery life is no joke - the 2019 is much better.

They are both 2019 models right? the new 1.4 budget baseline MBP and then the higher end 2.4 ghz 2019 MBP that sells for $1799 on sale for $1499 at many places.......?

I have the 2019 13" MBP base with 8GB/256GB storage...paid $1449 on Amazon, Apple's msrp is $1499
I bought the July 2018 model (2.3 GHz; 8GB; 256GB) new in November and paid $1799 at Apple Store.

I wondering the same. I can get the 2.3 2018 model for the same price as 1.4 2019 model. Both are 4 cores with Touch Bar. (The 2.3 2018 model should not be confused with the more recent 2.4 model). Which is better?

Here are the two models in question:
1.4 2019
https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...19-touch-bar-2-thunderbolt-3-ports-specs.html

2.3 2018
https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...d-2018-true-tone-display-touch-bar-specs.html

From what I can ses the speeds are roughly the same (1.4 only slightly faster). The 2.3 should have better graphics and 4 ports instead of 2. And the 1.4 has the revised third generation butterfly keyboard (with silicone). So is the 2.3 or 1.4 a better computer? Heck if I know.

I live in Sweden and it's not an option for me. I can however get the 2.3 2018 and 1.4 2019 models for the same price. Which is better?
