I think that people are over-hyping the "impossibility" of getting the phone on launch day. Sure, it probably won't have as many units ready as other models have in the past, but the expected higher price and the presumed availability of the still very good "7s and 7s+" models means that demand might also be a bit lower as well. Either way, millions of these things are going to be reaching people's hands on launch day, and if you pre-order ASAP, everyone here has just as good a chance as anyone else to be one of those millions. I know that demand will still surpass supply for a while. It always does. But people are acting like Apple is only making 100 of the things or something.
The high price is the only thing that makes the supply not be '100' for all intents and purposes. Although, it probably still will be despite that.

I guesstimate that shipping times will slip within 3 minutes of preorders.

Well...good for them. I'm not sure why you keep wanting to talk about those phones over here, though. Many of us simply aren't interested.

I think what he's trying to say is that Samsung's phone is not being sold out so it would behoove Apple to get their supply up. Some people get impatient and if they have to wait 6 months for a phone, they 'might' go over to Android.

Is there typically a limit to how many you can order online at once, or is all this doom and gloom about shipping time sliding within minutes because scalpers get online and order truckloads?

Just curious, how do you describe identical design as 'a new fresh look'?

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be identical except for the glass on the back and the transition to the metal frame on the sides. The jet black model should be visually almost indistinguishable.
I think that Apple will do a good job marketing the new glass back and stainless steel frame (Providing that's true) as a "new look" and as stated Apple feels these models offer enough of a change to earn the name 8 and 8 plus vs just an S upgrade. Personally, it isn't a big change to me and I'll be opting for the Edition/X model no questions asked, I just think that the other models will sell better than people seem to be thinking.

Honestly, based on current rumours, I'm feeling more drawn to the "8 Plus" than the "Edition" at the moment. They may not be much of an upgrade coming from a 7/7+, but they will be for anyone coming from an older model.

I’m buying outright the second preorders open.

I’ll be sad if I miss the launch day delivery despite this.

Is launch day delivery an option when you preorder?
Good question. I remember when the 5s launched, the gold model wasn’t even available for launch day delivery (I ordered within 5 minutes and had to wait 2 weeks because they didn’t do preorders).

Apple Watch was similar; some models/band combos started at 3-4 weeks. We’re taking about how to get an iPhone edition on day one, but they may not even have them. They may save them all for Apple retail/channel partners.

If you Preorder, The iPhone ships when it's available (Usually will indicate an estimated shipping date) and delivers within two business days. In some cases, it could ship within the same business day depending on stock. After the iPhone becomes widely available and is in stock regularly, then you can select specific delivery dates after the fact.

HPLouis is spot on.

I lived under a rock, just had a hands on with my friends Galaxy 8 Plus recently and realized how far phone technology has progressed in design beyond the 6.

You read posts around here like "would unlocking the homescreen with your face actually work? you need some deliberate action additionally right?" you quickly realize how unaware at least some people in the community are when it comes to the smartphone ecosystem outside of our Apple community.

The 7+ availability was a joke last year.

I think 4-6 weeks will be damn near immediate if your pre-ordering skills aren't on point.

Completely agree, there are people saying how nobody will want the 7S and 7S Plus but that simply isn't true due to the price difference and perhaps people will like the ease of use of having a home button. Having said that, if there is a supply shortage, we could see a repeat of last year.

The answer to OP's question also depends on which color and size is desired. Last year, the Jet Black 7 Plus was the rare beast to find. I got in on the first window of preorders, and my JB unit didn't deliver until the Wed following launch day.

I remember when some didn't even receive their Jet Black model until late December or later. I tend to not opt for the most popular color for reasons as such personally.

I'm hoping to have a better chance, because i actually like the white front. Something tells me most people will go for black ;)

I think that most of the (assumingly) privileged people on this forum do not realize that the vast majority of people simply won't be able to afford the flagship model. I think you'll even get one on day 1 without preordering. It will be selling like hot cake, but nowhere near "out of stock for 6 months".

Well he's kinda right tough... it's a fact!
You don't like this fact? then go to another universe where the reality is psychologicaly more satisfying for you :)
