Is it important to get a laptop sleeve?

A sleeve will keep your internal components cleaner, especially if you are putting it in your backpack and around school. You can get a lot of dirt and other particles through the back vents.

This was my experience after getting a sleeve for mine.

I was seeing a lot of dust particles on the screen prior to keeping it in a sleeve that went away after buying a neoprene sleeve.

I think it helps so that you don't get dirt into your vents. On my PC I never used one and just stuck it into my backpack for 4 years and have not had issues but with my next laptop I def would get a sleeve.
