Is it IMPOSSIBLE to connect an iPad Pro with USB-c to an older Mac WITHOUT USB-C?

I've tried a bunch of cable configurations and can't seem to get it to work.

EDIT: That Mophie cable referenced isn't available anymore, and so far all the comparable cables I've found only support charging iPads, not data transfer. Which seems... strange.

Weirdly, they don't list these in their menu for cables. But yes, I would give these a try. Anker makes great gear.

While the cable should be easy to find, a hub would be another way to tackle this issue. I picked up a cheap little hub for my USB-C iPad for HDMI out but it has many other kinds of ports on it too. While I haven't tried to do specifically this, I strongly suspect it would work just fine.

While I generally use it for charging only, this cheap USB C to USB A cable works just fine for syncing.

I use the USB-C to USB-A cable that came with my Samsung T7 SSD. Works like a charm.

I’d go for this for USB3 if your Mac has USB3 ports. USB2 is super slow.
