I've been having this problem for a while but it became really frequent the last month or so. I would say on average that it misses 1 out of 10 tap clicks, which is very annoying. Sometimes when I click, it actually drags stuff...weird. I don't know if it's the problem with Yosemite or my right hand palm partially rest on it. Anyone else having the same issue?

I have a 2014 Air, but mine does this as well. I'm new to Apple laptops; after hearing all the accolades about the touchpad, I find this rather disappointing, after never having this problem with many, many PC touchpads. I do find the touchpad otherwise exemplary, but this is annoying. I never use the mechanical click anyway (only tap click and three-finger dragging).

I suspect most people have experienced the same issue but just ignored and tap clicked again without thinking about it. If you pay attention, you'd notice that the track pad misses quite a few tap clicks.

I have a similar issue, but only when my hands are dry. I never had this issue in the summer (and it goes away when my hands are not so dry), so I'm reasonably confident this is due to dry hands. I think the threshold for detecting a click is set high to stop accidental clicks, and this conflicts with dry hands.

Is it winter where you are?

Also, the trackpad detects something like 4 fingers. So resting your palm on the trackpad will confuse it.

Dry hand or not really doesn't matter. I tried on my bro's brand new rMBP and it registered every tap clicks. Switched over to my MBA, it missed. Not fun. :(

This will get worse with time. This has been an issue with my wife's 2010 11"MBA for about a year now. However, it often reverts to working normally for a period of time, before happening again.

Our local Apple repairer say's, it is a known issue that can be repaired by either a software / firmware update, or a replacement trackpad.

We are just waiting for the right time to send it in for proper diagnosis / repair.
