Is it me or does MacOS Monterey feel a lot faster?

Definitely faster on my M1 pro running PB, boot time and logging in is definitely faster, safari is also faster, hopefully it stays this way.

Battery life seems to be just as good as 11.4 so far. 😃

I was just thinking the same so I headed over to the forums to see if anyone else was too. Hard to quantify. But, M1 8GB MBA here, and feels solid, snappy, and fast in terms of the OS (Public Beta). Faster than Big Sur -- now don't ask me why I'm saying this, I don't now, it just does.

I think I might revert back to Big Sur whilst I still can, in order to still be able to get some use out of it.

i have the same macbook, and it's flying here. reset smc, nvram? boot into safe mode, then boot back normally?

mine is well.... slightly slower. loading finder to the desktop takes a while. Not sure why that is!

A little snappier here - that's on a cloned Big Sur system, apps, everything to an independent start-up volume via CCC (my usual practice for testing new betas). Somewhat surprisingly, all the apps, audio drivers, PCIe etc continue to work well; at most there was the odd beta here and there to update, eg SoftRaid. On the other hand, Monterey seems rather underwhelming, mostly eye-candy and a great deal of emphasis on ramping up the 'walled garden' across other Apple devices (which I do not use or am interested in - eg, ZenBook laptop, Z-Flip phone etc).

Still, this studio seems to continue to function well under Monterey. I was hoping for a few more 'pro' tweaks under the hood, eg: Aggregate audio reliability & performance; bluetooth ditto; the previously rumoured macOS 'pro mode' etc. All of this seems exactly the same as before, but who knows yet. Only a beta 1.

Just took the plunge and upgraded my Catalina system (on intel mac mini 2018) to Monterey latest beta.
Incredible how fast(er) Apps open and everything feels really snappy for me, i would say more snappy than Catalina.
Also haven't encountered any bugs/issues yet.

it's just you.. I have reinstalled High Sierra after using Monterey for 2 weeks and my Mac is now unbelievably fast

how did you install high Sierra? My 16 inch came wiht Catalina but I recently wiped Big Sur and the only OS install option I got was Big Sur. Big Sur runs like crap on my Mac. Apple genius told me if I wipe it to fresh install, it will fix the issues. I wiped it and its jsut as bad again. I really hope the new OS makes the 16 inch run decent again.

For those of you saying it's faster, did you do an in-place upgrade, or a clean install?

I tried Both! Still feels faster than Big Sur to me! I haven't seen any pinwheels on my M1 Mini as I had while using Big Sur. Except while reporting an issue with a 3rd party application. The sending of the feedback from the Feedbacks Assistant has been the ONLY thing that shown pinwheels!

iCloud is a mixed bag; delayed syncing, but that's about it.. Funny thing.. When I decided to revert back from Monterey's Beta. After formatting the drive to clean installation of Big Sur. Right after restoring from my Time Machine backup, how about the restore damaged my admin account.. So I reinstalled Big Sur again as a overlay to repair the admin account issue. No dice!

Big Sur is locked in what looks like an Admin account. But I can't give access to 3rd Party Extensions through the Recovery Option. So that's a thing!

In my experience, every release of macOS has improvements which the Mac feel snappier. And usually this is due, in part at least, to memory management improvements. Here is one way that Apple has tweaked memory management to make iOS and macOS snappier on app launch: Macworld

2019 16" MBP, and Monterey beta 3 makes webpages load much faster than on Catalina. (Skipped Big Sur.) Very noticeable and impressive. CAn't wait to make the switch permanent after Gold/RC build.

you're kidding, right? we're on different hardware, different processors... run different apps, customize settings differently. when you consider all of this, it's amazing anything works at all... 🤣

M1 MBA, fresh install of Big Sur upgraded to Monterey and it seems fast? I'm noticing a difference in how quickly it logs me in after booting and after waking from sleep - almost instant in both cases compared to how it was under a fresh Big Sur install.

Comparing side-by-side with my iMac I think some of the animations in Monty are a little different and that might be making it feel snappier. Opening Apple apps (Calendar, Safari etc) doesn't seem to be faster but I notice on Monty that windows and navigation buttons seem to get "into position" a smidge faster but the actual content gets rendered at around the same speed (if that makes any sense?).

Just installed Monterey on my M1 MacBook Air and overall, it feels a lot faster than Big Sur. Apps load quicker, moving the windows around feels like Windows 10. Or is it all my imagination?

Messages.app is definitely faster! That had been lagging a lot for me.

Well, for me.... it won't install on my 2013.... and it's on my M1 but this is faster anyway... hmmmnnn...
