Thats not normal behaviour. It could be that the battery needs calibration (As the Macbook batteries need every now and again) Run the iphone till it switches of (Empty) and then fully charge it.
 
Well it its affecting you that much you can return it to Apple and they will replace the battery.

No it is not. Batteries over time can't hold as much charge as when they were new. You can replace the battery yourself if it is bothering you, but this does void the warranty.
