Is it okay to charge the apple pencil with the iPad charger?

With the adapter, is it okay to charge the apple pencil with the iPad charger? Or does it provide too much juice for it?
 
Apple devices are designed to talk to (Apple) chargers to ask for the right amount of power - I've charged mine from the charger that came with my iPad Pro and not encountered a problem 🙂
