Do any of you guys see an issue with me placing a computer tower (Dell) on carpeting? I personally doubt static electricity could damage the internals of the computer as long as the case is on it, but I just wanted to make sure. Unfortunately, I can't fit the tower in my desk so I really have no other option.

Shouldn't be a problem at all. Especially since the computer frame is going to be made of metal, and it will be grounded at the socket.

Everyone I know who has a tower puts it on the carpet in fact. Carpeted dorms at school...

I reckon your problem would be more from dust than anything related to static electricity. There's a lot of crud on the ground in carpet that is just itching to get sucked into a cooling fan.

A dell that's running after 5 years.?! 😱
HA!

My first and only Dell ran for 5 years, then it crapped out all at once...video card, then hard drive, then motherboard. That's when I got smart and got a mac.😀

Dust is the thing. Clean it out a couple of times a year.

You'll be surprised how fast it collects.

Yeah I know, that worries me with my iMac actually, since it's not supposed to be opened by end users :/ (rev c).

you also be surpise at how much less dust that will be in you computer if you raise it up just a few inches off the floor.

the biggest draw back to being on the floor is dust. There is going to be a lot more in the computer because it not a few inches off the floor. As for running not a problem. People run comptuers on the floor for years with out an issue.

Very true, I raised my tower about 2" an it collected a lot less dust. But I still clean it out 2-3 times a year.

In that case pick it up and set it on a table and blow it out with compressed air.
