Hi my kid broke his iPhone 16 screen in the corner when he got the bright idea not to use a case after reading a nytimes article that says you no longer need one. The first day of this experiment and he drops the phone and there’s 6-8 little line cracks no more than a cm in length in the bottom right corner.

Is there a cheap option for replacing the screen? I know with older phones this was possible if you were OK with a decrease in screen quality. Now when I google for screen repair or DIY kits, I get a lot of conflicting information so I figured I’d ask the brain trust here.

He doesn’t even care if the replacement screen is OLED but Face ID has to work (I remember when replacing screens on older phones sometimes Touch ID didn’t work…)

Are there any options that costs leee than the $300 screen replacement at the Apple Store? I’m comfortable doing the repair myself if it will save me a considerable amount of money over a mail-in or drop off service…

I’m in Manhattan if anybody knows of local (same day) options.

Thanks so much!

You can find an independent repair shop - they'll do screen repairs for about half of what Apple charges.
