I have a bunch of dvds (that I own), but I would like to have them on my mac so that I don't have to pop in a dvd every time I want to watch them.

Is there a way to do that? During my search, I only found solutions that required installing a software. Is there a software built in the mac that would do the job?

Also, how much hard drive space would dvds take up?

    Thank you.

There are no built-in apps for this, you have to install some.

VLC + Handbrake will work nicely.

If you just want them for viewing on your Mac, iPad or iPhone, then VLC+Handbrake is the best solution in my opinion

If you want a full rip to burn for backup, then I recommend either Mac DVD Ripper Pro or RipIt

Use disk utility. Create a disc image from the DVD you can play it through VLC I never got it to work reliably with DVD player.

    Cheers
