Is it possible to delete files within time machine backups?

    Hi all,
I've been using time machine for the last few months and I've just realised that my downloads folder has been backed up during every backup.
I normally only store my recently downloaded media there and transfer it to a separate HDD every month or so, so don't need it to backed up. Either way, it's not important content so it doesn't need to be backed up, so I've now excluded it from future backups, in the settings.
The problem is all this content is still in the old backups. Is it possible to remove only the "downloads" folder from previous backups?

    Thanks.
