Is it possible to Jailbreak/Unlock 3GS 3.1.3(7E18) with baseband 5.12.01

Bootroms can never be downgraded.
That is a guide to downgrade the firmware on a 3GS only if the SHSH for the firmware was saved.
I thought Spirit was the only thing you could use to JB a 3G on 5.12.01 right now, until the Dev Team says you can with Redsn0w?
Yep,for now 3.1.3 on a 3GS only spirit.
There will be more tools for 4.0 thru the dev team soon.

The reason I ask is the jailbreak matrix says different. Was this a recent change to be able to JB on 3.1.3 (5.12.01 baseband)? Everything I read has the user using 3.1.2 to jailbreak 3.1.3 (confusing to me). I’d like to finally update my baseband to see if wifi works better.
You will be able to update it to official 4.0 soon and then when the jb is out jb and unlock with the new ultrasnow for the 4.0 bb.
You don't jb a bb, that only has to do with an unlock. Firmware has to do with jb.
The 3.1.3 jb has been out, u just had to point the program to the 3.1.2 ipsw. No big deal.
Today's ultrasnow release unlocks all basebands released from the 3.0 days all the way up to today's 4.0 firmware baseband.

So, if I upgrade to 3.13 and baseband 5.12.01, I would be able to jailbreak with Redsn0w? Thats the part that wasnt clear to me. I thought you couldnt if you went to 5.12.01.

Update to official 3.1.3 and then you can jb with redsnow by downloading the official 3.1.2 ipsw and pointing redsnow to that file and following thru with the rest of the steps.
But I don't think your bb would be whats causing your wifi issues.

No. As of right now spirit only works for 3.x.
Right now there are no official jailbreaks for iOS 4. There are unofficial ones, but none of them use spirit.

I bought a Rogers Iphone, on craigslist. I do not have the Canadian SIM and am on At&t in the U.S. I ended up restoring in and am now stuck in the activaton screen. Is there anyway to jailbreak/unlock it without the Rogers SIM... If I buy a SIM on Ebay could that work? I am ready to throw this thing out the window... Any all help would be appreciated...
