Is it possible to manually turn off iSight?

Besides putting a piece of paper over the iSight, is there a way to manually disconnect it so that no one can remotely login from the outside and view it? I am assuming that even a firewall would not be enough.

from the article it sounds like the computers or the webcams where property of the school. So the people envolved must have installed something on these laptops or the webcams had ip address that they could spy on.

so if its your computer it would be hard for someone to do that without your knowledge.
