is it possible to move the iTunes folder onto a external drive

is it possible to have my iTunes folder and library (not the music files) but the files inside the iTunes folder onto a external drive and use iTunes that way?

1) Why would you do that as the iTunes files aren't that large.
2) Yes; there are a plethora of guides on the internet. Go search for them.
