Is it possible to put more than 2GB RAM into my Powerbook G4 17/1.5GHz?

Just wondering if its possible.. looking on one of the memory merchant sites it looks like only 1GB PC2700 DDR RAM modules are available.

I have 2x1GB sticks in it already. Is it possible to upgrade to 2x2GB's or is this not possible

Would appreciate any clarification on this. Thanks

I believe it is not possible. I remember someone on these forums saying that the PowerBook won't recognize the high density 2GB chips.

I would love it if they could as I have one that I would love to upgrade to 1x2GB ram (one of my ram slots is dead).

I don't know the technical reason, but Apple lists 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) as the max RAM on this model's manual.

There isn't a "proper" explanation -- aside from, that's how Apple designed the logic board and that's the way it is, but there are people who've tried it, and it doesn't work:

just a glimmer of hope as the late Alu MBPs are capable of 6GB of RAM, despite Apple saying that 4GB is the max..

It did also happen in that era, but not with that computer. For instance, the original iBook G4 (revision A, that shipped with 128MB soldered in and one memory slot) had a listed limit of 640MB (128 + 512), and at the time, gigabyte modules in this class were not available, but when they did become available, they worked fine (for 1152MB of memory).

Sadly no such luck with the late PBG4's.
