Title, basically. I'm not talking about the newer ones. Specifically, I have an iPhone 8 that I've retired and I just never liked the glass back on either of these. I know that for later iPhones (X onwards) you need a whole laser setup to get rid of the back glass, so what happens with this slightly earlier one? Can I just use a heat gun and patience? Or is there somewhere that I can get a back case without the glass?

You can always use a skin to remove the glass texture if you don’t like it. I don’t see why you’d want to remove the glass completely & replace it as that would be a laborious job for an old phone as a lot of the circuitry is attached to the rear casing.
