Hi all,

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro 17'' (Early 2011). I want to replace the HDD with a SSD, but I accidentally bought a 3.5'' SSD, not 2.5'', which can not be returned to the retailer for some reason. Is it possible to replace the SuperDrive in the MacBook Pro with a 3.5'' SSD?

This is the link of my SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227590

Thank you in advance!

Kai.

No. The 3,5 inch harddisk is already thicker than your macbook.

Or you can make it a fun DIY project, adding about 2 inches of thickness to your macbook and a lot of ducttape to hold it together.

Though i have concerns about the power. 2,5 inch only consumes about 5V wheras 3,5 easily takes 9 or 12V or something. Probably won't even get it booted.
