I own an iPad Air 3, an Apple Watch series 4 and 2 iPhone XR’s. When receiving notifications I notice that all four devices chime and wake to their lock screens to show the notification. Is it possible to have just one device chime and wake while the others remain silent? For instance, if I’m wearing my AW, I’d like to have its paired iPhone chime and wake. If not wearing the AW, I’d like to have the non-paired iPhone wake. If I’m working on my iPad Air 3, I’d like it to show the notification.

I have noticed that when ”Hey, Siri” is active on all four devices, only the device closest to my voice actually responds. Is it possible to have that done for notifications as well?

Easily.
On each device you can set notifications to do what ever you want. No notifications, not on lock screen, no icon badge etc.
Dig around in settings & notifications and app preferences to set it how you want it. Then send yourself some messages & see if you like the results.

I'm not a fan of having ANY notifications show up on the lock screen in case I lose my phone

I’m not sure I understand how this will accomplish the task I described in the OP. Can you please explain how your reply would accomplish the task I mentioned?

So you ultimately only want the device you are using to chime when the Notification comes in? That’s a tough one. I think you’d have to just set all the devices you are not using to Silent and only have the one you are using at that moment to not be on Silent.

If all your devices are on the same iCloud account, then normally only the device you're currently using should show a notification.

That would be perfect, but it has never worked that way for me.. and I have always owned more than one iOS device at a time since 2011. Would you be able to show me how to set up my devices to mimic what you said?

Yes, that would be perfect!

That would mean that I have to change settings constantly, depending on which device I am using at the time. This is what I was hoping to avoid.

I don't think Apple has gone this far to fine tune notification experience to reflect the device you are currently using. Maybe a new Face ID camera system with spatial awareness feature could allow Apple to “intelligently push through the notification to the device you are actively using, instead of sending to every device you own”. Certainly something iPhone 11 has the potential to do in maybe iOS 14.

As it is now though, you may have few way to achieve your goal.
