Is it possible to update iPhone OS while out of cell coverage?

I will be at an office today that has absolutely no cell coverage. What I would like to do is bring my netbook along with my 3G and update the OS when it is available. I know the phone will want to activate, but it won't be able to find a signal until after I leave late tonight.

(one additional note...I'm on travel and working with a spare notebook with iTunes on it. This isn't my normal computer that I normally sync with)

Do you think that will be a problem?

    Thanks!

I really have no clue, but I would think it'd have to be on some sort of wi-fi because of the file size

That shouldn't be a issue. You need a internet connection to receive the update, but it doesn't matter if your cell phone has service or not.

Your phone will just wait to activate until it finds a connection. You can still update it.
