is it possible to upgrade from 32bit xp to 64bit windows 7

    No, it's not possible. You're going to have to back up any important data and do a clean install. 32-bit and 64-bit are entirely different architectures, hence why you can't simply upgrade from one to the other.

    Honestly though, doing a clean install is always the best plan of action. Using the "upgrade" option is often times messy, and can create program issues.

    i dont have many programs to begin with (mostly freeware) so i wouldnt even have to do a backup... but your saying that i could use the upgrade version if i wiped my partition of my mac hard drive because i have no problems with that
