In my hopes of purchasing a MacBook Pro, I wish to use an external hard drive to store my music due to space limitations. However, I want to back that up as well. Using Time Machine, can you backup both the internal HDD AND external HDD?

Yes you can.

I have both my iMac and my external 2TB G-Raid (has all my music/movies) drive backing up via Time Machine to an external 2TB ioSafe Solo drive.

Yes, you certainly can. I have an iMac, not a MBP, but I use Time Machine to back up the iMac's internal 320 GB drive and a 1 TB external drive, no problem.

I'm not sure what the default is, though -- whether the external is automatically included in backups or is it put into the exclusion list by default? Just means you should go into "Time Machine Preferences ->Options..." and make sure the external is NOT in the exclusion list.
