Is AT&T really as bad as everyone makes it out to be? I live in Tampa, FL and the service isn't amazing, but I always have 3G and at least 4 bars. I know Verizon says they have 3G in more areas than AT&T, but AT&T has faster 3G that's in the major markets. Is my area just lucky to have good coverage and AT&T's stretching the truth about their service, or do a lot of other places get good AT&T service too?

EVERY service provider will have areas of bad coverage. It just depends on where you are in relation to the cell towers. Yes, this applies to Verizon as well.

I get good reception at school here in Colorado Springs. Fast 3G connection also. Granted, I do drop calls though (as just happened randomly on my last call about 30 mins ago). That didn't happen on when I was on Verizon. Overall though, no huge complaints.

For SOME people it's that bad, not all.

About a month ago, AT&T really improved in my area. I could not get 3G service for more than a minute or two while at home. Suddenly one day, I got 3G service ANYWHERE in my house including the basement and I get 5 bars no matter where I go. I'm very happy with AT&T these days.

I've even been able to tether to my MBP in my basement and when I tested the speed, it was just under 2MB. Not bad!

No, it's not and we don't need another thread about it.

It works fine everywhere I've lived - Bakersfield and now San Francisco, CA. Verizon might have more coverage in Iowa or Nebraska, but I never go anywhere.

I don't care about nationwide coverage. AT&T works great where I am.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

Yes, for some reason 3g works better than actual voice service. I get dropped calls the time in Los Angeles California. I use more data than voice anyways so I don't really notice it that much. You gotta pay to play.

Yeah all networks have problems some places. For me though, where ever I go, home or school or where ever, AT&T stinks. Verizon always has a great signal.

All networks have dead spots, or blind spots where there are fewer towers and weaker signals. Like mountainous regions or plains. AT&T isn't as bad as people make it to be, but their customer support is abysmal. Their service tends to get better once in range with populated regions, like NY, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc.

Hey, Aggie! Sadly...it really is bad. I honestly get the "Call Failed" screen on about 20-25% of all my calls...and I'm not alone :(

BTW, please don't blow it today after last week's amazing game...

Yes, it is -- at least in NYC.
